If you visited the foodbank last week, you may have been surprised to discover a living, breathing, real life stormtrooper in the building! We ought to explain…
One of the agencies that supports the work of the foodbank is the brilliant Waterways Chaplaincy. They are a regular visitor, collecting food for people living on the local River Lee, who are experiencing hard times and need some help. Last year they featured in Narrow Escapes, a series exploring the lives of those who have abandoned a life on land to live on the river. A new series is being filmed, and our local chaplains were approached regarding being in it. They in turn pointed the production company towards us as a foodbank and church as a source of assistance for those for whom this life becomes challenging. Hence a camera crew at the foodbank.
…But what’s the stormtrooper got to do with this?! Good question! Underneath the outfit was one of the chaplains, a former member at the church, and a good friend. He’s a bit of a Star Wars fan, and when the production company discovered this, they suggested he bring his outfit along to show this lighter side in an episode which explores some of the difficulties of life on the water.
