1 Peter 2:9-10 (NIVUK)
9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

As we read earlier in the week, the Bread of the Presence was laid on the table before God by the priests on behalf of the people. In fact the name literally means ‘Bread of the Faces’ and there is the sense that in this act, the priests were bringing the people and their need for God’s provision into his presence. 1 Peter 2 describes all Christians as belonging to the new priesthood. Part of this means that we are to represent the world before God, praying for them and seeking God’s love, provision and mercy on their behalf.

Take some time to pray for the communities you move amongst, your neighbourhood, your workplace, your country. Lift these people and their needs before our compassionate Father.
