2 Chronicles 5:13-14 (NIVUK)
13 The trumpeters and musicians joined in unison to give praise and thanks to the Lord. Accompanied by trumpets, cymbals and other instruments, the singers raised their voices in praise to the Lord and sang: ‘He is good; his love endures for ever.’ Then the temple of the Lord was filled with the cloud, 14 and the priests could not perform their service because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled the temple of God.
Are you seeing the dry ice from David’s wonderful illustration last Sunday? I have clear recollections of driving through unexpected and thick banks of fog, terrifying experiences, full of fear through not knowing what might suddenly appear out of the cloud. This moment in the Temple must have been a little like that, except at the same time a cause for great celebration – God himself was present with his people, in his Temple. The New Testament tells us that we are now God’s temple, a living temple, and we too are filled with his Spirit. This is most certainly not a cause of fear, although definitely a cause for showing respect through how we treat our bodies, and how we live. It is, however, most certainly a cause for great celebration. God is with us!
God is good: his love endures for ever!
