Bible Notes

2 Chronicles 6:41-42 (01.11.24)

2 Chronicles 6:41-42 (NIVUK)
41 ‘Now arise, Lord God, and come to your resting place,
you and the ark of your might.
May your priests, Lord God, be clothed with salvation,
may your faithful people rejoice in your goodness.
42 Lord God, do not reject your anointed one.
Remember the great love promised to David your servant.’

The chapter ends with Solomon’s rousing prayer that God would remember his promise to Solomon, his anointed king, and the love he had shown to David before him, and come and dwell in his Temple. It is hard, of course, for us as Christians to fail to see Jesus being pointed towards in these verses, God’s Anointed One, his King of kings, in whom all God’s promises are fulfilled.

Lord, we rejoice in your love and goodness!
