Ephesians 4:1-6 (NIVUK)
1 As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. 2 Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. 3 Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.
When the world is made new and all is as it should be, unity will be easy, but for now whilst we wait for that day, unity is something we have to work hard at. Sometimes we will get things wrong. Sometimes others will. When that happens, unity is a choice we have to make – are we prepared to forgive and to be forgiven, to exercise patience and to love when we are hurting or are those that cause hurt?
Father, help me to chose to forgive, and to accept forgiveness. Help me to prioritise and strive for unity, just as you have given all for us.
