Isaiah 11:2a (NIVUK)
2 The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him –
It’s easy to overlook the fact that Advent – both Christmas and Christ’s return – are not just about Jesus, the whole Trinity is involved. God the Father sends his Son, his love of the world is the driving force (see John 3:16), and he comes with the guidance and empowerment of the Spirit.
I find the word ‘rest’ in this verse encouraging. The Spirit might make demands, but he rests on us, suggesting a lightness and reciprocity alongside this, he makes requests and invites our response. Is the Spirit awaiting a response from you right now?
