    the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding,

So what does the Spirit bring to Jesus? Isaiah gives three descriptive pairs, which according to Hebrew poetry we can expect to be related in meaning. To me this first pair, wisdom and understanding, speaks of not academic intelligence and an accumulation of knowledge, but a deep understanding of what it is to be a person, how we think and behave. This is paired, of course, with the insights of the incarnation – he sees us and gets us because he knows what it is to be us.

Thank you Jesus that you come as a King who ‘gets’ his people.
