Isaiah 11:2c (NIVUK)
the Spirit of counsel and of might,
The second offerings of the Spirit are counsel and might. At first glance, these might seem unrelated, but the way they’re coupled in this Hebrew verse implies that they are. Could it be that true power doesn’t come from within but through listening to and following the Spirit’s instruction? Jesus is powerful not because he is inherently able to do miracles in his own right, but because he listens to and obeys the Spirit’s instructions?
Father, sometimes I don’t feel up to much. It’s encouraging to discover that Jesus may well have felt the same but found might through listening to the Spirit’s counsel. Help me to do the same.
