John 5.28-29
‘Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice 29 and come out – those who have done what is good will rise to live, and those who have done what is evil will rise to be condemned.’
We said on Sunday that there will be a resurrection of the unrighteous as well as the righteous; you will find this truth also in Acts.24.15 & Daniel12.2, and maybe Matthew 10.28. In John 5 those who belong to Christ are described as those who do good, not because their good deeds earn them salvation, but because receiving God’s grace spurs them to good deeds as a natural response of transformed hearts.
Lord, thank-you that in a future day we shall ‘rise to live’, not because we are intrinsically good but because in Christ you have made us good.
