Serving Jesus in Our Community

Bible Notes

Romans 12:1 (19.08.19)

Romans 12:1 NIV
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.

There were a whole range of different sacrifices in the Old Testament, offered for a whole lot of reasons, but at the heart of all of this is a common factor, they involved giving something to God, a gift. In the New Testament we often think that sacrifices are no longer wanted or required, but that is a misunderstanding. Jesus is the ultimate sacrifice, he gave himself for us. We may not offer doves or grain as offerings anymore, but we are called to imitate him and offer ourselves to God, to give him our lives, our ambitions, our resources and our time.

Father help me to surrender every aspect of my life to you in response to your love and grace shown to me.
