Serving Jesus in Our Community

Bible Notes

Monday 15th July

Reading: Psalm 131:1-2
1 My heart is not proud, Lord,
    my eyes are not haughty;
I do not concern myself with great matters
    or things too wonderful for me.
2 But I have calmed and quieted myself,
    I am like a weaned child with its mother;
    like a weaned child I am content.

Thought for Reflection:
Modern talent shows tell us ‘to go with our hearts’ and that you can ‘be whoever you want to be’ and ‘achieve your dreams’. There is nothing wrong with having ambitions and trying our best, but chasing unrealistic objectives is the way of dissatisfaction.  The way to true satisfaction is in our relationship with our heavenly Father. As Augustine famously said, ‘You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in you.’

Prayer:
Father, today, help me to find contentment in my relationship with you.
