Bible Notes

Monday 2nd September

This week we return to the Old Testament as Tim explores the story of Ruth, an outsider who is welcomed into God’s family.

Reading: Ruth 1:1-5 In the days when the judges ruled, there was a famine in the land. So a man from Bethlehem in Judah, together with his wife and two sons, went to live for a while in the country of Moab. The man’s name was Elimelek, his wife’s name was Naomi, and the names of his two sons were Mahlon and Kilion.

Thought for Reflection: Here is the start of a great story, well worth reading the whole book if you get a chance, but it starts badly; a famine drives a family away from the place God had promised to bless. Sometimes we respond to difficulty by running away whereas God can be with us and provide a way through the very circumstance we are afraid of.

Prayer: Lord, help me to find your strength and renewal in the details of today and to face the future with you.
