John 13:34-35
34 ‘A new command I give you: love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.’
Today the discussion in the news has all been about football and poppies – should the England and Scotland teams be allowed to wear poppies on Armistice Day when they play each other. They want to, but Fifa says no, they don’t allow religious or political symbols. As a Christian, the arguments make me think about how I remember Jesus – and in John we’re told how to. The best way to show respect to him and remember what he did for us, is not through wearing a cross or such like, but is through how we live, through loving others.
Father, thank you for Jesus, help us through your Spirit to love a little like he loves us.
