John 14:25-27
25 “All this I have spoken while still with you. 26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
Yesterday we thought about how peace is something we have to work at and strive for. Fundamentally, though, our peace comes not from our efforts but God. Our peace comes from learning that he loves us as our Heavenly Father, knowing that he forgives us and restores us through his Son, and knowing that he will never leave us through the comforting presence of his Spirit in us. Ultimately all will be well – our efforts now are to bring to others a taste of what we enjoy in him and what is to come.
Lord, thank you for your precious gift of peace. Help us to discover it in the troubles we face today.
