Psalm 147: 15-20 (18.11.16)

Psalm 147:15-20
15 He sends his command to the earth;
    his word runs swiftly.
16 He spreads the snow like wool
    and scatters the frost like ashes.
17 He hurls down his hail like pebbles.
    Who can withstand his icy blast?
18 He sends his word and melts them;
    he stirs up his breezes, and the waters flow.
19 He has revealed his word to Jacob,
    his laws and decrees to Israel.
20 He has done this for no other nation;
    they do not know his laws.
Praise the Lord.

Psalm 147 ends with a celebration of the power of God’s Word, his gift to us.

When God speaks, things happen. When God speaks the world is changed in ways that perhaps as here only poetry can truly express. I wonder if we grasp the power we expose ourselves to when we open the Bible, God’s written and revealed Word? Perhaps it should come with a health warning wrapped around it, its contents are so dangerous. Reflect on this for a moment.

God has given us a record of who he is, who we are and his desires for us and the world he has given us to live in. This is an astonishing gift. Through giving us his Word, both the Bible and his Son, not only does God work powerfully amongst us, but he also makes himself vulnerable to us by giving us that secret insider knowledge. Reflect on this for a moment.

Praise the Lord.
