Hebrews 12:14-15 NIV
[14] Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. [15] See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.
Peace and holiness are closely entwined. A life lived in conflict, argument, disagreement, or at odds with others is the mark of a soul in turmoil, a place less settled and a land untamed. The poet W. B. Yeats wrote: “Peace comes dropping slow”. It is not easily won. The writer of Hebrews says we must work at it, make every effort to achieve it. It takes practice and self-discipline. Yet without it, we will lack that sense of inner contentment and a life in balance that only comes from seeing God and being at one with Him.
Gracious Father, let your peace and holiness flow through me, and like a river in flood overflow to everyone I meet this day.
