Ephesians 2:19-22 NIV
Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household, [20] built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. [21] In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. [22] And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.
Our identity as part of the church is not based on our theology, what we believe, our ecclesiology, how we do church or even our morality and ethics, how we believe we should live. No, it’s built in a person and a relationship with him, Jesus. Everything else is secondary and emerges from that.
Jesus, thank you that our hope is built on you. Forgive us for the times when we put other things in your place – teach us to put you and people first.
