1 John 2:15-17 NIV
[15] Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. [16] For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. [17] The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.
1 John 2:24-25 NIV
[24] As for you, see that what you have heard from the beginning remains in you. If it does, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father. [25] And this is what he promised us—eternal life.
“The World” here means all the messed up bits of the world around us – the greed, selfishness, arrogance, violence and all the stuff like that that we find in ourselves and (more easily!!) in others. That is contrasted with “eternal life” – the abundant, joyful, fruitful, new life that Jesus came to give that will last forever. When we love someone or something, it or they becomes the focus of our thinking and living
What are we absorbed with today?
Jesus, be the centre
Be my hope, be my song
Jesus
Be the fire in my heart
Be the wind in these sails
Be the reason that I live
Jesus, Jesus
