13 And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.’
This life, life in the current age, is a challenging one. God’s image in us is distorted meaning we’re prone to sin/debt/trespass (see yesterday), and we’re surrounded by others who are the same. What’s more, this world in and of itself is broken and in need of renewal. This means that to live the life we’re called to requires someone who can see the pitfalls and temptations and lead us and protect us from ourselves and others. The Lord’s prayer ends with this recognition of our reliance on him, and a prayer that he’d help us not just help ourselves to be better people, but by doing so, keep us from harming others.
