Revelation 8:2 (NIVUK)
2 And I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and seven trumpets were given to them.
Who are the angels? These are God’s messengers, messenger is literally what angel means, divine creatures who play a key role in announcing God’s will to the world as we see most clearly in the Nativity story. With trumpets in hand, they are envisaged here as God’s heralds, heralding the good news of his salvation plan, the plan to put right his spoilt creation. There is a sense in which we’re called to be angels, maybe not of the winged haloed variety, but human messengers of God’s plan for his beloved world.
Think through the day ahead. As our country gears up to start the Christmas celebrations, in what ways can you communicate God’s message? Father give us the words to speak, the courage to share them and hearts that are receptive to what we say.
