Revelation 12:7-9 NIVUK
7 Then war broke out in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. 8 But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven. 9 The great dragon was hurled down – that ancient snake called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him.
The presentation of the snake is the same at the beginning of the Bible as it is at the end, the powers he yields are temptation and lies, and with these he seeks to lead the world astray. This tells us that we would be wise to question the way we live, the ‘truths’ we’re told, and the culture around us. Don’t be cynical and assume that every institution and fashion and person is out to take advantage of us, but equally, don’t be gullible. As Romans 12:2 tells us, ‘Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will’.
Father, help us through your Spirit to see clearly, to embrace truth and goodness whilst being wise to that which would deceive, and so live to your glory.
