Matthew 15:10-11 NIV
Jesus called the crowd to him and said, “Listen and understand. [11] What goes into someone’s mouth does not defile them, but what comes out of their mouth, that is what defiles them.”
It’s only with time that I’ve really come to grasp what sin is. I used to think of it as things that we do and say, but this is not how Jesus sees it. Jesus sees these things as s symptom of an underlying condition – as humans we have become flawed, part of our nature means that are unable to help ourselves or stop ourselves from doing things that harm our relationships. It is this flaw rather than the deeds it leads to that is sin, and we can do nothing about it other than trust in Jesus’ loving mercy.
Spirit, change my stone heart for a great of flesh!
