Genesis 1:27-28,31 NIV
So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground. ”
…[31] God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.
I believe this is the starting point for our theology, our thinking about God and ourselves. God made us and the world we live in and it was good. Yes, Genesis 3 tells the story of Adam and Eve turning away from God and the impact that has had on the world they were supposed to be tending, as we all have since, but God does not look at as with hate or condemnation, or ridicule, or with disinterest. He looks at us with a love that comes from having made us, and a passion that wants the best for us. Know that despite all your faults and frailties that he sees you and says you are good.
Father, help us accept your compassion and learn to love ourselves as you do, and through that learn to love you and those around us.
