Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures: “ ‘The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvellous in our eyes’ ?
Challenging the Pharisees about their view of himself, Jesus comes out with this quote from Psalm 118, warning them that the one they are rejecting is key to God’s plan. Of course this takes on greater significance come Easter, where rejected Jesus hangs from the Cross, a failed Messiah, only on the third day to be raised to new life, a vindication that in fact he has succeeded and indeed triumphed!
Don’t judge a book by its cover – Father forgive us for the times when we dismiss others and especially you. Help us to be open to see beyond our preconceptions and prejudices to see you and others as they really are.
