Daniel 7:9-10 NIV
“As I looked, “thrones were set in place, and the Ancient of Days took his seat. His clothing was as white as snow; the hair of his head was white like wool. His throne was flaming with fire, and its wheels were all ablaze. [10] A river of fire was flowing, coming out from before him. Thousands upon thousands attended him; ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him. The court was seated, and the books were opened.
Just as Revelation pulls back the veil so we can see what is going on behind the events that we experience, so too does Daniel’s vision. We heard yesterday about the beasts, the empires or powers that be that fight for dominion over the earth. But whilst they rage, they are not ultimately in control. God, the Ancient of Days reigns, and the vivid description used here underlines his sovereignty and might. He is the judge, and he takes his seat to make his decision. (I’ve read an interesting twist to this description – had you noticed that God’s throne has wheels? Is it a wheelchair? What might that say about our view of disability?)
Almighty God, Ancient of Days, you are Lord over all the Earth and all that lives on it. We worship you as Lord and judge and for the goodness and compassion in your judgements.
