For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.
Kate and I often take a walk along the river on a Sunday afternoon. We stopped yesterday to admire a house that has shot up almost in a week on the opposing bank. It’s look fantastic. But of course it has taken a lot more than a week – before the work above ground was done, a number of weeks were taken digging out and laying the foundations on which it stands. So it is with us, Jesus is our foundation – we stand only because of him and all he has done for us, we can only achieve what we do because of what he has done first.
Father, today we celebrate the life of a dear friend who built his life upon your Son. Help us to do the same.
