Matthew 11:28-30 (13.11.19)

Wormley Free Church, Slipe Lane

Matthew 11:28-30 NIV
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. [29] Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. [30] For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

How can we be freed from our burdens by taking on more? On my last bike I had a problem with my gears. The gear changer and the cogs it worked with didn’t match, they were made by different companies. It worked, but only when I got my new bike with its matching parts did I realise what difference that mismatch made. Now it all feels so much smoother and I go a couple of extra miles an hour quicker. So it is when we come to Jesus. He gives us work to do, his yoke, but it is the work we’re made to do, we are matched, and in doing it we find we are set free from the drain of doing that we aren’t made to do.

Jesus, thank you that your yoke is tailor made. Show me what it looks like today.
