The Eighth Day of Christmas / New Year’s Day
Matthew 2:9-11 NIV
After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. [10] When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. [11] On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshipped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.
Meeting Jesus leads to joy, worship and gift-giving.
Joy, the wonder at being a witness of Immanuel, God-with-us. How astonishing it is that God should come to us, that his Spirit should live in us!
Worship, the declaration of his majesty, how else can we respond when we come into his presence and experience his grace.
Gift-giving, as God gives himself to us, what can we give in response?
What can I give Him, poor as I am?
If I were a shepherd, I would bring a lamb;
If I were a Wise Man, I would do my part;
Yet what I can I give Him: give my heart.
