Bible Notes

Genesis 4:5-7 (03.03.20)

Genesis 4:5-7 NIV
…Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast. [6] Then the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? [7] If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it. ”

In his anger, God sees Cain is in great danger, and warns him to take care – sin is like a wild animal waiting to pounce on him, he must not let it, rather for his own sake he must master it. Strong emotions are part of what it means to be human. If we master them, they can help drive us towards doing great good, but if they master us, they can lead us astray and to terrible deeds.

Thank you for the gift of emotion – help me today to use my emotions as tools for worship and justice.
