John 20:30-31 NIV
Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. [31] But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
John doesn’t talk about Jesus doing miracles or doing speeches, he talks about him performing signs. The focus isn’t so much what Jesus does, amazing as that might be, but what that points towards and what it says about him. For John, everything that Jesus says and does points towards a single fact – he is God the Son, come as Messiah, to give us life.
A thought to prayerfully ponder, if your life is a sign, what does it point towards and what does it say?
