Bible Notes

Psalm 62:3-4 (10.11.20)

Psalm 62:3-4 NIV
How long will you assault me?
Would all of you throw me down—
this leaning wall, this tottering fence?
Surely they intend to topple me from my lofty place;
they take delight in lies.
With their mouths they bless,
but in their hearts they curse.

Being a leader can feel vulnerable, especially when you feel that everyone is out to get you and no one appreciates you as David expresses here. None of us have stood in David’s exalted shoes as a King, but I suspect we can all relate to some extent to what he’s feeling. The good news is that when others are inconsistent in their treatment of us, God is faithful, when others might be out to get us, God is always for us (this is not the same as saying he always approves of our actions).

Father, help me build my life not on the expectations and praise of others, but on the stability of your love and grace.
