Isaiah 9:1 (07.12.20)

Isaiah 9:1
…there will be no more gloom for those who were in distress. In the past he humbled the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the future he will honour Galilee of the nations, by the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan.

2020 has been a difficult year by any standard. It has been a year of loss of freedoms, fear of becoming ill with Covid-19, a year of sadness and grief for many, economic hardship, isolation, loneliness, and distress.  Yet…and yet in these darkest moments of hardship and misery in the days of Advent we read the promise of God to his people  –  that first ray of hope: we have the pledge of God that he will honour his people, Galilee of the nations, for there is a new dawn coming and in it we will find light and joy and be together again – and we will know the presence of God.

Lord we wait on you as we prepare once again to celebrate your coming into the world as a helpless infant.
