Exodus 17.10-13
10 So Joshua fought the Amalekites as Moses had ordered, and Moses, Aaron and Hur went to the top of the hill. 11 As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning. 12 When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up – one on one side, one on the other – so that his hands remained steady till sunset. 13 So Joshua overcame the Amalekite army with the sword.
The Amalekites were a recurring problem for Israel. While Joshua and others were out on the front line fighting the enemy, Moses was continually praying, supported by Aaron and Hur. Few of us are on the front line in the battle against coronavirus, but we all have a part to play, doing our bit to minimise the risks. In life’s bigger battle against the enemy of our souls, some of us are on the front line telling the world the good news, while others are behind the scenes battling in prayer or even just holding one another’s hands up.
Lord, the battle is long. Strengthen us to keep going until sunset brings an end to this difficult day!
