Isaiah 53.5-6
But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.

This is Isaiah’s summary of the way of salvation. Isaiah reminds that we are all prone to wander off and get lost. If God had said to us ‘You are all sinners due for condemnation; so you work out how to get out of that one!’, we could never ever have come up with such a remarkable plan as the one God devised. And of course we would have been completely unable to carry it out. The very worst sinner can come to God and find forgiveness and salvation and eternal life, because it does not depend on us.

Thank-you Father for the plan of salvation which was revealed through Isaiah several centuries before the Lord Jesus came to carry it out. Thank-you for opening our eyes to our need, and to the wonderful Saviour who meets that need!
