1 Chronicles 16:26-27 (NIVUK)
26 For all the gods of the nations are idols,
but the Lord made the heavens.
27 Splendour and majesty are before him;
strength and joy are in his dwelling-place.
Joy is a fundamental part of God. Here, not only does the writer of Chronicles describe it as a good thing, but in describing God, goes as far as putting it on equal footing with his strength, a characteristic we’d be quick to use about him. What’s more, not only does it suggest that he is joyful, but those who are in his presence share that joy.
Lord, may we know the joy of being in your presence.
