Deuteronomy 18:15 (29.11.22)

Deuteronomy 18:15 (NIV)
The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your fellow Israelites. You must listen to him.

I don’t know what sort of person Moses imagined when he wrote those words. If you read the previous verse, you will see that the context of Moses’ prophecy is his warning to the Israelites that if they want to know what God says they should not go to diviners, mediums and the like. God will speak to them, not in some magical way, but through personal revelation. This came through Samuel, Elijah, and many more, but supremely and finally God spoke through his own Son Jesus, in whom his grace to sinners is revealed. The opening verses of Hebrews say much the same thing, but then tell us, first that he made the universe, and secondly that he provided purification for sins. I suspect that is all way more than Moses imagined!

What do you want to say to me today Lord, I’m trying to listen.
