Serving Jesus in Our Community

Bible Notes

John 1:14 (30.12.22)

John 1:14 (NIVUK)
15 (John testified concerning him. He cried out, saying, ‘This is the one I spoke about when I said, “He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.”’) 16 Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given. 17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in the closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.

God is beyond our comprehension. He is more than us. He is different than us. He is greater than us. It is easier to define God by what he is not – he is not us. But the wonder of the Christmas story is that God who is other, different, distinct, apart and beyond, came close in Christ, became one of us, so that we who before could not comprehend him, could see him and know him. To put it simply, if you want to know what God is like, get to know Jesus.

Spirit, help me this Christmas season, to know Jesus deeper.
