Serving Jesus in Our Community

Bible Notes

John 20:18 (28.04.23)

John 20:18 (NIVUK)
18 Mary Magdalene went to the disciples with the news: ‘I have seen the Lord!’ And she told them that he had said these things to her.

This verse always makes me want to burst out in song. Mary’s words, ‘I have seen the Lord’, were key phrase in one of the songs in the Easter musical I performed in, which was central to my coming to faith. ‘I have seen the Lord,’ was repeated with an echo, ‘and the Lord is alive!’ Our faith is not based upon doctrinal statements, or a constitution, or abstract ideas, but upon the testimony of people such as Mary, people who saw Jesus risen to new life. it is about discovering him for ourselves, ‘I have seen the Lord!’ and passing on the great news, ‘the Lord is alive!’

‘I have seen the Lord!’ Thank you Jesus for revealing yourself to us.
I’m no great evangelist, no master theologian, or charismatic speaker, I’m just a normal person, just trying get by from day by day, just like Mary. If Mary as able to say ‘I have seen the Lord,’ perhaps I could too.
