Revelation 1:12-16 (28.06.23)

Revelation 1:12-16 (NIVUK)
12 I turned round to see the voice that was speaking to me. And when I turned I saw seven golden lampstands, 13 and among the lampstands was someone like a son of man, dressed in a robe reaching down to his feet and with a golden sash round his chest. 14 The hair on his head was white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire. 15 His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of rushing waters. 16 In his right hand he held seven stars, and coming out of his mouth was a sharp, double-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance.

Someone like a son of man‘ Jesus appears as one of us, he is fully human, but he is so much more than this. John’s vision reaches back to Daniel’s in the Old Testament. Daniel 7:9-14  tells us,

9 ‘As I looked,
‘thrones were set in place,
and the Ancient of Days took his seat.
His clothing was as white as snow;
the hair of his head was white like wool.
His throne was flaming with fire…
13 ‘In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence. 14 He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all nations and peoples of every language worshipped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed.

Sound familiar? Jesus is both depicted as being in appearance like the Father, the Ancient of Days, and receiving everlasting sovereign power over the earth from him.

Jesus, I acknowledge your reign in my life today.
