Matthew 6:28-30 (05.07.23)

Matthew 6:28-30 (NIVUK)
28 ‘And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labour or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendour was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you – you of little faith?

Some might compare us to grass with its here and now it’s gone nature – indeed Scripture itself does elsewhere. Isaiah 40:6-8 says:

…‘All people are like grass,
and all their faithfulness is like the flowers of the field.
7 The grass withers and the flowers fall,
because the breath of the Lord blows on them.
Surely the people are grass.
8 The grass withers and the flowers fall,
but the word of our God endures for ever.’

Compared to God’s eternal nature, the human lifespan is brief, but, the wonderful gift of God through Christ is eternal life. If God has given us that gift, then surely we can trust in his provision and care of us.

Give thanks to the Lord for he is good, his love endures forever!
