Matthew 6:31-32 (NIVUK)
31 So do not worry, saying, “What shall we eat?” or “What shall we drink?” or “What shall we wear?” 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.
There are times when I look back on my childhood wistfully as a time in my life when I could do what I wanted and didn’t have the burden of responsibility for myself and others. This was a time when I didn’t need to worry about my needs, in fact I didn’t even think about them or how they were met, they simply were. It was the faithful love of my parents that made this happen, and it is only now as an adult looking back that I appreciate this and what they did. I wonder if Jesus is calling us to something like this childlike trust by pointing out that God is our Father and he knows our needs. We can find security in knowing this and relying on his faithful love, and, unlike the children we perhaps once were, a cause for thanksgiving and worship.
Thank you Father for your faithful love and provision.
