Colossians 1:6-8 (11.07.23)

Colossian 1:6-8 (NIVUK)
…In the same way, the gospel is bearing fruit and growing throughout the whole world – just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and truly understood God’s grace. 7 You learned it from Epaphras, our dear fellow servant, who is a faithful minister of Christ on our behalf, 8 and who also told us of your love in the Spirit.

I’m writing this having just returned from helping adjudicate at Broxbourne Primary School’s sports day (what a fantastic event!) One of the final races was a fiercely competed relay race between the four different houses, across the different age groups, using proper batons. There’s something of that here with the cascade of faith from one to another continuing from yesterday’s passage. The baton of faith is passed from Jesus down the chain from one to another until it reaches us, and then continues from us to the wider world. I love reading about Epaphras. We might not get to be an apostle, or miracle worker, or great missionary, like Paul and the other apostles, but we can all be an Epaphras, passing on the gospel invitation to others.

Jesus, who do you want me to pass the baton onto today?
