Psalm 119:103 (NIVUK)
103 How sweet are your words to my taste,
sweeter than honey to my mouth!
This Psalm, like much of the Old Testament, talks about God’s laws. To us this can feel quite authoritarian, focussing on God telling us what to do, rather than the more friendly relationship we have with Jesus. This is misleading though, even the 10 Commandments begin with relationship – I am the God who brought you out of slavery. God’s ‘laws’ are not really about him bossing us around, but helping us live the kind of lives that will help us have the best relationship with him and with others that we can. This is why the Psalmist talks about God’s laws, God’s words, being sweet to him, like eating honey.
Thank you Father for offering us a relationship with you, and helping us make it the best it can be! How precious, how sweet even, this is.
