Matthew 6:13*
…for yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory for ever. Amen.
We live in a changing world. Leaders come and go, as do the seasons and the weather, and fashions and cultures. Whilst some love change, most of us probably find it a little unsettling, especially that feeling of being left behind, or missing out. The Lord’s Prayer ends with a simple reminder, in a world which is ever changing, God is constant. HIs love never fades, his mercy is always ready, his justice always working for the oppressed and downtrodden. The markets / English summer / our favourite sports team/politicians/friends/celebrities may let us down, but he never will. Now that’s something I can get behind and celebrate – amen!
Thank you that you are the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. Thank you that we can build our lives on you, knowing that you provide a solid foundation that we can depend upon.
(*This text is found in late New Testament manuscripts and has become the traditional ending to the Lord’s Prayer. Most Bibles include it as a footnote.)
