Bible Notes

1 Kings 18:21 (07.09.23)

1 Kings 18:21 NIV
[21] Elijah went before the people and said, “How long will you waver between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him.” But the people said nothing.

Elijah had made a choice – over and over again – to listen to God and to obey him and he had discovered God to be true and faithful. He realised how important it is to make that good choice and so he lays before the people a clear decision: Is the Lord God and worthy of following through every circumstance or is Baal, the “god” who represents all that is wrong in the world, the God we should follow? This is a dark time for the people of Israel and they have strayed far from God and they needed this challenge and demonstration of the power of God to bring them back to a place of blessing. Winston Churchill said “You can measure a man’s character by the choices he makes under pressure.”
How do we choose today?

Lord, let us choose your way in the small circumstances of today and to allow your Kingdom to come in my life.
