Jesus told them another parable: ‘The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field.
What does Jesus mean by the Kingdom of Heaven here? The use of heaven leads us to immediately think of a future home with God, but a bit of background helps. Matthew is talking about the Kingdom of God (as other Gospel writers put it), but swaps God for Heaven to avoid offending Jewish readers who were sensitive to the commandment to not to use God’s name in vain. He’s talking about wherever God is at work and where his will is followed, including in the here and now. This reminds us that God’s creation was made to be good, and all that God does in and amongst us now is to achieve good.
Father, you are a good god! Thank you for the goodness we see and experience in our lives.
