Romans 4:18-19 (NIVUK)
18 Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, ‘So shall your offspring be.’ 19 Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead – since he was about a hundred years old – and that Sarah’s womb was also dead.
Sometimes hope seems ludicrous. I hoped to be a rockstar one day, but that was never going to happen. Sometimes we’re called to live life based on our faith that to others may seem ludicrous because there’s no sign of it being true or no apparent reason to believe something may happen, but with faith it is different. If you don’t know God, something may seem impossible, but if you know God and what God is like, then that changes. Because God has shown himself to be faithful, we can expect him to be faithful again. Because he has shown himself to be powerful, we can expect him to be powerful again. Because God has been gracious and kind before, we can expect him to be so again. To those who don’t know God, a life of faith may not make sense, but to those who know him, it is totally sensible.
Spirit, help me to live life trusting in the person God has revealed himself to be in Jesus.
