Luke 12:16-17 NIVUK
16 And he told them this parable: ‘The ground of a certain rich man yielded an abundant harvest. 17 He thought to himself, “What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.”
Those that first heard this story were probably poor and would have looked on such farmers with envy, if only they would share what they had. It is telling that this doesn’t even cross the farmer’s mind. Greed blinkers us to the needs of others. There is a trap here too for the poor: it is very easy to become bitter and jealous of others, attitudes which are also divisive and destructive.
Father, thank you for the abundance we have. Help us to look beyond ourselves and consider others.
