Last week was Halloween with its emphasis on the ‘dark side’ to borrow a phrase from Star Wars. This week’s Bible Notes offer a contrast by looking at the theme of Light.
Revelation 21:22-25 NIVUK
22 I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. 23 The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp. 24 The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendour into it. 25 On no day will its gates ever be shut, for there will be no night there.
We started in Genesis, so it only seems right to end in Revelation. At the start God said ‘let there be light’, and at the end, he himself will be our light and that for all nations, and all darkness and fear will be gone. HIs light will not be restricted but will be for all nations, the whole of the earth will enjoy its brilliance and find their place in him.
Lord, may we see tastes of your light in the world today.
