Micah 5:2 (NIVUK)
2 ‘But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah,
though you are small among the clans of Judah,
out of you will come for me
one who will be ruler over Israel,
whose origins are from of old,
from ancient times.’
Is it too early to mention Christmas?… I’m not ready to put up the decorations yet, but it is hard to finish this week’s set of notes about God and small things without quoting Micah 5:2, a prophecy often heard during Advent and Carol services, about how the Messiah will come from Bethlehem, small and insignificant when compared to other places in the Promised Land. Here perhaps is an encouragement to those who feel small, and a warning not to overlook seemingly insignificant places and people, because to do so might be to miss seeing God at work.
Thank you Father that you have so often chosen to use those with small importance, and so given them importance. Help us to be like you and lift others up through the way we treat them.
